GOBE is a company I’m very excited to have the chance to collaborate with. I partnered up with GOBE more than a year ago now and have been using their camera filters ever since. They are a company based in Byron Bay, Australia with a love for the ocean and this fragile planet of ours. They strive to create sustainable products and use minimal and recyclable packaging. Every product that is sold also funds the plantation of 5 trees in areas of severe deforestation such as Nepal, Haiti, Madagascar and Indonesia. You can tell the GOBE team throw in so much passion and hard work into their projects and visions to create a more positive impact on our planet. I love that they raise their consumers’ awareness of the current deforestation issue and have even dedicated a whole section of their website to this!

Ich habe mich sehr gefreut, mit GOBE zusammenarbeiten zu könnte und benutze schon seit mehr als einem Jahr ihre Kamerafilters. GOBE ist ein Firma aus Byron Bay, Australien, die das Meer und diesen fragilen Welt liebt. Sie bemühen sich um nachhaltige Produkte und verwenden nur minimale und recycelbare Verpackungen. Jedes verkaufte Produkt finanziert auch die Anpflanzung von 5 Bäumen in Gebieten mit starker Abholzung wie Nepal, Haiti, Madagaskar und Indonesien. Man sieht wie viel Leidenschaft und harte Arbeit das GOBE team in seine Projekte und Visionen steckt, um einen positiven Einfluss auf unsere Welt zu haben. Ich finde es toll, dass sie die Verbraucher auf ihrer Website auf das aktuelle Problem der Entwaldung aufmerksam machen.

GOBE FILTERS
In this review, I’m going to talk a little about CPL and ND filters for those who aren’t so familiar and what I use them for. They are definitely an essential part of my photography gear, especially when shooting on sunny days or waterfalls.
I have been using namely their Circular Polarising Filters (CPL Triple Peaks) in both 67mm and 58mm thread size as well as their Neutral Density Filter (ND8) in 58mm thread size. First off, I have to say I really like their eco-friendly packaging, it was so nice not to have to throw away single-use plastic for once! The beautiful soft microfibre cleaning cloth also deserves a notable mention as does their great colour coordination.

In diesem Artikel, erkläre ich etwas über CPL- und ND-Filter für diejenigen, die nicht so vertraut damit sind und nicht wissen, wofür ich sie verwende. Sie sind ein sehr wichtiger Bestandteil meiner Fotoausrüstung, besonders an sonnigen Tagen oder beim Fotographieren von Wasserfällen.
Ich habe den Zirkularpolarisationsfilter (CPL Drei Peaks) in 67 mm und 58 mm sowie den Neutral Density Filter (ND8) in 58 mm Gewindegröße verwendet. Zunächst einmal muss ich sagen, dass die umweltfreundliche Verpackung mir sehr gut gefallen hat. Es war so schön, Einweg-Plastik einmal nicht wegwerfen zu müssen! Erwähnenswert ist auch das schöne weiche Mikrofaser-Reinigungstuch und die hervorragende Farbabstimmung.
CPL Polarising Pro (3 Peaks)
GOBE offers the CPL filters in three different grades, coded by the number of peaks. The single peak is for entry level photographers; double peaks for aspiring professional photographers and triple peaks is highly recommended for professional photographers. The main difference here is the type of glass it’s made with and the multi-layer resistant coating. So the Triple Peaks CPL is made with German SCHOTT optical glass and GOBE’s 16 layer multi-resistant coating for photographers who shoot often and in rougher conditions.
When I’m shooting during the day, I basically always have GOBE’s CPL filter on my lenses to cut out glare from the sun. It helps make my day photos look less hazy and adds back the contrast and saturation I would’ve lost. I also use it when I’m shooting around water and want to capture the rocks or plants underneath the surface, so by using CPL filters I can eliminate that diffused light by rotating the filter and adjusting the angle to the amount of polarisation I desire. GOBE bietet die CPL-Filter in drei verschiedenen Stufen an, kodiert mit der Anzahl der Peaks. Der Single-Peak ist für Einsteiger, der Double-Peak für aufstrebende Hobbyfotografen und der Tripel-Peak für professionelle Fotografen sehr zu empfehlen. Die Hauptunterschiede hier ist die Glasqualität und die mehrschichtresistente Beschichtung. Die Triple Peaks CPL sind mit deutschem SCHOTT-Optikglas und 16-Schicht-Multiresistenter Beschichtung hergestellt, für diejenigen, die mehr unter raueren Bedingungen fotografieren.
Wenn ich tagsüber fotografiere, habe ich grundsätzlich immer einen CPL-Filter von GOBE auf meinen Linsen, um Blendung durch die Sonne auszuschalten. Meine Tagesfotos sind damit weniger verschwommen, der Kontrast und die Sättigung, die ich verloren hätte, werden auch zurückgesetzt. Ich benutzt es auch, wenn ich irgendwas unter der Wasseroberfläche fotografieren möchte. Ich kann das diffuse Licht ausblenden, wenn ich den Filter einfach drehe und den Winkel anpasse. ND Filter (2 Peaks)
The Neutral Density filters are made with Japanese Optical Glass and GOBE’s 12 or 16 layer multi-resistant coating, depending on the number of peaks (signifying entry or mid performance). They also offer ND filters in varying strengths: ND2, ND4, ND8, ND64, ND1000 as well as a variable ND filter, rotational between ND2 and ND400 .
I have been using GOBE’s ND8 filter, which allows me to reduce my f-stops by 3 stops. Basically what it does is decrease the exposure by a certain amount so you can slow your shutter speed to capture those silky waterfalls and soft waves; or increase your aperture (lower f-stop - ie. more blur in background) without getting that over exposed white washed outcome. This is a huge game changer, especially when you’re trying to shoot portraits in broad daylight with that bokeh (blurry background, focused subject) effect. Most professional portrait photographers will use ND filters of some sort.
ND Filter (2 Peaks)
Die Neutral-Density-Filter werden aus japanischem optischem Glas und 12- oder 16- Schicht Multiresistenten Beschichtung hergestellt, abhängig von der Anzahl der Peaks. Sie bieten auch ND-Filter in unterschiedlichen Stärken: ND2, ND4, ND8, ND64, ND1000 sowie einen variablen ND-Filter, der zwischen ND2 und ND400 variiert.
Ich habe den ND8 filter von GOBE benutzt, wodurch ich meine Blenden um 3 Stopps reduzieren kann. Grundsätzlich verringert es die Belichtung, sodass man die Verschlusszeit verlängern kann um seidige Wasserfälle und weiche Wellen zufotografieren; oder erhöht die Blende (mit kleine f-stop für mehr Unschärfe im Hintergrund), ohne Überbelichtung. Dies ist ein großer Gamechanger, insbesondere beim Aufnehmen von Porträts bei hellem Tageslicht mit diesem Bokeh-Effekt (unscharfer Hintergrund, fokussiertes Motiv). Die meisten professionellen Porträtfotografen benutzt ND-Filters.

What I liked about my GOBE filters:
Thin rims: this is very important if you’re shooting with wide angle lenses as filters with thick rims tend to product an undesirable vignetting effect. I really liked how thin and elegant the rims were and I get no vignetting on my images!
Sharpness: the photos I’ve taken with these filters have produced consistently sharp and clear results. In fact most of the photos in this review has been taken with the ND8 filter.
Ease of threading and rotation: CPL filter rotates so fluidly, it’s just a pleasure to shoot with!
Other remarks:
Because I have used the CPL filters so extensively in the last year, I have noticed some haze markings on my filters whereas the ND8 filter still looks like new! However, I would put this down to me being a little rough in the type of conditions I shoot (salt water, sand and snow occasionally). So my tip here would be to clean your lenses and filters regularly and use a lens cap! It’s a no brainer, but I always forget or misplace my caps.
I am definitely looking at getting some more filters, namely the ND1000 for those super long exposure shots - my current one has sadly seen the end of it; and probably one of their ND filter kits too. GOBE offers some great (UV, CPL and ND) filters kits with a very ingenious way of threading and holding them all together so you’re not lugging around 5 separate cases but rather just the one compact roll of filters.
Was mir an meinen GOBE-Filtern gefallen hat:
Dünne Rand: Sehr wichtig, wenn man mit Weitwinkelobjektiven fotografiert, weil dicker Rand den unerwünschten Vignettierungseffektenerzeugen kann. Mir hat der dünne und elegante Rand sehr gut gefallen und ich bekomme keine Vignettierung auf meinen Bildern!
Schärfe: Diesen Filtern liefern konstant scharfe und klare Ergebnisse in meinen Fotos. Die meisten Fotos in diesem Artikel sind auch mit dem ND8-Filter aufgenommen.
Einfach zu drehen: Der CPL-Filter lässt sich so flüssig drehen, es ist wunderbar!
Weitere Anmerkungen:
Da ich meine CPL-Filter im letzten Jahr so viel benuzt habe, bemerkte ich scon einige Abnutzungserscheinungen, während der ND8-Filter immer noch wie neu aussieht! Aber ich fotografiere auch in raueren Bedingugen (z.B. Salzwasser, Sand und Schnee). Mein Tipp hier wäre also, Linsen und Filter regelmäßig zu reinigen und einen Objektivdeckel zu verwenden! Es macht Sinn, aber ich vergesse es immer oder verlege meine Kappen.
Ich werde mir wahrscheinlich den ND1000 kaufen, für Fotos mit extrem langer Belichtungszeit - mein aktueller hat es leider hinter sich; und auch einer ihrer ND-Filtersätze. GOBE bietet einige großartige Filterkits (UV, CPL und ND) mit einer sehr coolen Methode zum Einfädeln und Zusammenhalten, so dass man nicht fünf verschiedene Behälter mit sich herumschleppen muss, sondern nur eine einzige kompakte Filterrolle.
LENS ADAPTOR
These handy lens adaptors are very useful when you have two different camera models and wish to use your lenses interchangeably rather than forking out hundreds of dollars to buy the same type of lens for all your different camera models. For example, I have a Canon 700D with 4 different lenses. Meanwhile, I also have the lightweight Sony Alpha 6000, which I like more but my favourite lens is the Canon 50mm (f/1.8) prime lens. So I discovered GOBE’s range of Lens Adaptors which allows me to use my favourite Canon lens on my preferred Sony camera body! Such a genius invention and it’s less than $30 euros!
The only glitch with these lens adaptors is that they don’t have electrical sensors, which means that you can only shoot in manual. For example, when I use my 50mm prime lens on my Canon body, I am able to use auto focus and change the aperture. But on my Sony, due to lack of electrical signals, I have a fixed aperture, which means I can only adjust the shutter speed or ISO to achieve my desired look. On top of that, every time you move (even an inch) you have to refocus manually. I would highly recommend using zoom focus if you have one or the peaking feature on the Sony Alphas, which is a life saver. It highlights everything in red that is in focus and as you adjust the focus ring manually, it will shift showing you the new red area that is now in focus.

LINSENADAPTOR
Diese Objektivadapter sind sehr nützlich, wenn man zwei verschiedene Kameramodelle hat und die Objektive austauschbar benutzen möchten, statt Hunderte Euro auszugeben, um den gleichen Objektivtyp für alle verschiedenen Kameramodelle zu kaufen. z.B. Ich habe eine Canon 700D mit 4 verschiedenen Objektiven, und die leichte Sony Alpha 6000, die mir mehr gefällt. Aber mein Lieblingsobjektiv ist das Canon 50-mm (f/1.8). Mit der Objektivadapter von GOBE, kann ich jetzt mein Lieblings-Canon-Objektiv an meinem bevorzugten Sony-Kameragehäuse benutzen! So eine geniale Erfindung und es kostet nur ca. 30 euro!
Der einzige Nachteil bei diesen Objektivadaptern ist, dass sie keine elektrischen Sensoren haben, also man kann nur manuell fotografieren. Wenn ich z.B. mein 50-mm-Objektiv an meinem Canon-Körper habe, kann ich den Autofokus benutzen und die Blende ändern. Bei meiner Sony habe ich eine feste Blende, weil es kein elektrisches Signal gibt. Also, kann ich dann nur die Verschlusszeit oder den ISO-Wert einstellen. Darüber hinaus, jedes Mal, wenn man sich bewegt (auch nur ein cm), muss man wieder manuell fokussieren. Zoom-Fokus hilft sehr, aber die Peaking-Funktion des Sony Alphas ist ein Lebensretter. Es färbt alles rot, was scharfgestellt ist, und wenn man den Fokusring manuell einstellt, wird der neue Bereich angezeigt, der jetzt scharfgestellt ist.

If you’ve been meaning to invest in some good quality filters, then seriously look into GOBE and their products! Not only are you receiving top notch stuff, but you’re also supporting a company with a strong sustainability focus who strives to create a positive environmental impact, and every product you purchase goes towards the planting of 5 trees!
