HAWK OUTDOORS - Lightweight Hammock and Dry Bags (Product Review)

HAWK Outdoors ist ein Familienunternehmen von Berlin. Ich hatte das Privileg, ihre Dry Bags und Hammock-Linie auszuprobieren, die ich während meiner Kajak-Saison in Norwegen viel benuzt habe. Hier ist meine persönliche Bewertung ihrer Produkte.

DRY BAGS
Ich habe die Dry Bags mit 10L und 30L Kapazität bekommen. Man kann auch welche mit 20L und in den Farben Rot, Blau und Gelb wählen.
Die 10-Liter-Tasche eignet sich perfekt für kurze Reisen und bietet genug Platz für die wichtigsten Sachen. Während der Kajaksaison habe ich Kamera, Handy, Karte, Geldbeutel, Erste-Hilfe kit, Sonnenbrille und Sonnencreme im meinen 10L Sack gepackt und habe ihn für einen einfachen Zugriff an die Vorderseite meines Kajaks geschnallt.
Die 30-Liter-Tasche war praktisch für längere Tagesausflüge. Ich habe es für meine Kleidung, den Schlafsack, die Schlafmatte, und ein Luftkissen benutzt und sie in den Innnenfächern meines Kajaks verstaut. Als ich am Fjord entlang paddelte, hatte ich sie manchmal auch ein paar Stunden lang an meinem Kajak festgeschnallt und alles blieb trocken.

HAWK Outdoors is a family owned business based out of Berlin, Germany. I had the privilege of testing out their line of Dry Bags and Hammock, which I used extensively during my kayaking season in Norway. This is my personal review of their products.

DRY BAGS
I received the Dry Bags in 10L and 30L capacity. They also offer dry bags in 20L and in various colours of Red, Blue and Yellow.
The 10L bag is perfect for short trips and fitting your most important things. During the kayak season, I would store my camera, phone, map, wallet, first aid kit, sunglasses and sunscreen in the 10L and strap it in the front of my kayak for quick access.
The 30L bag came in handy for those longer multi day trips. I used it to keep my change of clothes, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, air pillow and basically anything I didn’t want to risk getting wet - and I would store this in the extra kayak compartments. Occasionally I have also had this strapped on the outside of my kayak for a few hours as I paddled along the fjord, and everything still stayed dry!

Die Gurte: Die 10-Liter-Tasche hat einen diagonalen Schultergurt, was sehr praktisch für kurze Wanderungen im Regen oder zu Wasserfällen ist. Die 30L-Version hat zwei gepolsterte Schultergurte, damit man das wie einen Rucksack tragen kann.
Das Material: Sehr festes, robustes Material. Ich habe diese Taschen während meiner Zeit in Norwegen fast 5 Monate lang jeden Tag benutzt, und sie zeigen immer noch keine Anzeichen von Abnutzung.
Die wasserdichten Handyhülle: Zu jede Tasche die man kauft, bekommt man eine "kostenlose" wasserdichte Handytasche geliefert, die ich auch ausgiebig benutzt habe (nachdem ich ein paar Handys verloren habe). Definitiv ein netter Bonus!
Leicht zu reinigen: Ich habe gelegentlich ein paar Sachen verschüttet, Gebäck gequetscht… und zum Glück war es super einfach sauber zumachen. Misch Spülmittel mit warmem Wasser, wisch es ab und es trockt ziemlich schnell.
Was mir nicht gefallen hat:
Die einfach gepolsterten Träger waren nicht so bequem, vor allem, wenn man die Tache stundenlang auf dem Rücken tragen muss (wie eine 10-stündigen Wanderung auf einem Berg). Die Polsterung am Riemen rutscht leicht ab und man muss aufpassen, dass der Gurt nicht scheuert. Ich wünschte, die 10-Liter-Tasche hätte auch die Option, doppelt gepolsterte Gurte zu haben.
Gesamteindruck:
Als jemand der sehr viel Zeit in der Nähe von Wasser verbringt (wenn nicht Wasser, dann Schnee), habe ich das Bedürfnis, auf einen bequemeren wasserdichten Rucksack umzusteigen, da ich eine Menge Kameraausrüstung habe, die ich dazu mit mir herumzuziehen und es wäre auch praktischer und bequemer. Es ist jedoch erstaunlich robust und vielseitig. Ich hatte es sogar als eingecheckte Tasche dabei und es hat zahlreiche Koffergurte überlebt, sowie 5 Monate in norwegische Fjorde und 3 Wochen Nonstop-Backpacking in diesem Jahr in Italien und Griechenland! Fazit: Für den günstigen Preis und die zusätzliche Handyhülle, ist das definitiv das Geld wert und ich kann es empfehlen.

What I liked:
The Straps: The 10L bag comes with a diagonal shoulder strap, which makes it easy to do short hikes in the rain or to waterfalls. The 30L came with double padded shoulder straps so you can wear it like a backpack, which makes it very practical.
The Material: Very strong, hardy material. I used these bags almost every day for 5 months during my time in Norway and they still show no signs of being worn out.
The Waterproof Phone Cases: Every bag you purchase comes with a ‘free’ waterproof phone case, which I have also used extensively (after losing a few phones to water damage climbing up to waterfalls and baby goats). Definitely a nice bonus!
Easy to Clean: I have spilt a few drinks on occasion, squished some pastries … and well, luckily it was a breeze to clean. Swish some dish washing liquid with warm water, sponge down and dry it upside-down. Best part about this material is that it takes a lot to stain it.
What I didn’t like:
The padded straps weren’t that thick nor comfortable, especially if you were going to haul your dry bag around for hours on your back (like a 10hr hike up and down a mountain)… it starts to hurt. Also the padding on the straps have a tendency to slip down very easily and I find myself constantly having to adjust it. One thing I wish the 10L bag had, was the option of having double padded straps (like the 30L)!
Overall:
As someone who spends a ridiculous amount of time near water (if not water, then snow), I do feel the need to upgrade to a more comfortable waterproof backpack, as I have a lot of camera gear I tend to lug around with me and it just makes more sense in terms of practicality and comfort. However, it’s amazingly durable and versatile, I’ve even had it as a checked in bag and it survived numerous luggage belts, 5 months of Norwegian fjords, and 3 weeks non-stop backpacking around Italy and Greece this year!
Verdict: for the affordable price plus the added waterproof phone case, I think it’s definitely worth it and it has my recommendation.

ULTRALIGHT OUTDOOR HÄNGEMATTE
Ich habe die ultraleichte Hängematte bekommen in einer schönen hell- und dunkel-olivgrüne Farbe. Ich liebe, wie klein und leicht sie ist. Zudem ist sie überraschend robust und kann zwei Personen tragen (getestet mit einem Gesamtgewicht von etwa 150 kg). Ich habe diese Hängematte in Wäldern, am Seeufer, auf Außenterrassen und gelegentlich beim Campen am Fjord aufgehängt.
Das Praktischste an dieser Hängematte ist, dass man den Beutel nie verlieren kann, weil er sich als Tasche zusammenfaltet! Seile und Karabiner passt alles drinnen, sodass sie sich sehr einfach aufhängen lässt. Manchmal kann es schiewerig sein, Bäume in der richtigen Entfernung zu finden, weil der Seile relativ kurz sind. Aber man kann natürlich auch Seilverlängerungen kaufen.
Im Inneren der Hängematte befinden sich Diagramme, aus denen sich ablesen lässt, wie man die Hängematte am besten aufstellen soll. HAWK beschreiben auch verschiedene Möglichkeiten, wie man Knoten knüpfen kann mit Bildern auf ihrer Website .
Ich liebe meine Hängematte und kann sie sehr empfehlen. Ca. 25 Euro ist das auf jeden Fall wert. HAWK bieten diese Hängematte auch in hell / dunkelgrün und türkis / grau an.

OUTDOOR ULTRALIGHT HAMMOCK
I received the ultralight hammock in a beautiful duo shade of Olive Green. I love how lightweight and small it packs down to. It’s also surprisingly sturdy and able to fit two people on there (tested it with a combined weight of around 150kgs). I’ve hung this hammock in forests, lakeside, outdoor terraces and occasionally whilst camping by the fjord and it’s never once slipped!
The most practical thing about this hammock is that you can never lose the pouch it comes in because it folds out and back in as a pocket! Ropes, carabiners, everything you need is linked up so that setting up is a breeze and it also means things can’t miraculously fly away. Unfortunately due to the rather short rope length, it can sometimes be hard to find trees within the right distance - but of course you can always buy rope extensions.
The hammock also comes with a page of diagrams explaining how best to set the hammock up. They also outline severals ways to tie knots on their website (which is only available in German) and lots of pictures to help make sense of it.
I love my hammock and would highly recommend this! For about 25 euros, this is definitely worth it’s value! They also offer this hammock in bright/dark green and turquoise/grey.
